Zayn Malik and Justin Bieber have both had their fair share of growing pains. In Zayn's case, it meant leaving One Direction, while for Bieber, it was more about peeing in buckets and bringing monkeys across international borders. While Bieber seems to have given up his bad boy antics for now (see our March cover story), he still seems to be unsure if he's ready to give up the look. Often that means dressing in baggy tees and sweats, but it also meant getting a nose ring late last week. Now, while at this point Justin is a big enough pop star that he can basically do whatever he wants style-wise, it's not a swerve we'd recommend for any regular adults out there.

Similarly, Zayn Malik—a nose ringer in his own right—decided to get a tattoo this weekend. While that wouldn't normally be news (our support for good tattoos is well-documented), it is when said ink is on his face. To make things even more interesting, Zayn opted for a tattoo classic for his face tat, wings with the word "mom" across it. Speaking of which, what does Zayn's mother think of this?

Are these moves from two of the world's most popular young male performers them disavowing their natural good looks? Or are they simply acts of rebellion in the interest of causing controversy? (In which case, hey, it's working.) Whatever the reason, the era of the finely polished teenage hearthrob seems like it could be over.
