Lucknow: The Kakori incident in which police swung into action only after the death of a minor girl who set herself ablaze after being stalked. Station house officer of Kakori police station inspector Rampal Yadav has been suspended, while role of a sub-inspector and head constable who had gone to record the girl's statement the same day was also being examined.
The accused youth Sonu, meanwhile, could not arrested.
On March 4, a minor girl student of class VII of a village under Kakori police station had stepped out to attend call of nature and was sexually assaulted by Sonu, from the same village. Next day, the girl set herself afire. 108 ambulance was called and local police was alerted about the incident. At 1.30 am-on intervening night of March 5 and 6-sub-inspector Arun Kumar Dubey and head constable Lalit Kumar recorded the statement of the girl at Civil hospital where she was undergoing treatment.
But no action was initiated till then even though the girl told cops that she was subjected to constant sexual harassment by Sonu. Late March 11, the girl, eldest daughter of a farmer, succumbed to burn injuries. Police registered FIR against the accused on Saturday only after the girl died and started making efforts to trace Sonu.
Rampal Yadav was suspended late Saturday night when media started questioning senior officials about the case.
Earlier too, a Gudamba resident BDS student committed suicide after city police took no action on her complaint. Student of a dental college, the girl ended her life on January 30 after a youth identified as Ajay Vishwakarma kept stalking and harassing her sexually on her way to college and back.
