Govt. permits sand collection from seven reaches in Krishna

The State government has declared seven sand reaches of river Krishna, allowing the public to procure sand for free of cost from the respective reaches, according to gazette notification issued by Krishna District Collector Babu.A.

The procurement of sand would be allowed from the reaches at Pedapulika, Madduru through open excavation while de-silting process was required in the case of reaches at Bhavanipuram, Gollapudi, Suryvpalem, Guntupalli and Ibrahimpatnam areas under the limits of Prakasam Barrage. “No sale or transportation of the sand to any other State is permitted.

“Any sand user is being allowed to take sand from the authorised reach, for which environmental clearance is obtained,” reads the gazette. However, sand quarrying would be prohibited in the reaches within 500 metres from bridges, culverts, groundwater structures, irrigation structures under the AP Water, Land and Trees Act 2002.
