To provide students a chance to do mini projects on its campus, the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, is offering a one-month Summer Internship Programme (NITK-SIP).

Mangaluru: To provide students a chance to do mini projects on its campus, the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, is offering a one-month Summer Internship Programme (NITK-SIP). NIT-K will admit 50 non-NIT students for the SIP to be held from May 25 to July 8.
"It is organized to promote awareness and interest in quality academic research among young students of engineering, basic sciences, management and humanities through an internship during summer vacation," said MB Saidutta, dean, Alumni Affairs and Institutional Relations, NIT-K, Surathkal.
Last year, the intake was 40, which has been increased this year due to high demand.
Under the programme, selected students will get an opportunity to work on research mini-projects under the guidance of NITK faculty members. Students who are completing third year (or sixth semester) B Tech/ BE, and or those completing the first year (or second semester) of M Tech/ ME/ MSc/MBA are eligible to apply. The selection of interns will be done by respective departments based on applicants' academic performance.
The interns will also be given a stipend of Rs 200 per day. Saidutta said each student would get a stipend of Rs 100 per day and Rs 100 as allowance for food. The interns will be provided access to the Central Library and the Central Computer Centre. Accommodation will be provided to the students in the hostels.
A faculty member from the respective department will mentor each intern. On successful completion of the project, the intern will be given a certificate by NIT-K, added Saidutta.
How to apply
Interested students must send research proposal along with the application form and necessary enclosures by speed-post to the head of the department where the student wishes to carry out the internship by May 4.
