Cong demands tabling of reports on corruption
Gandhinagar: Wednesday, On Gujarat Congress stormed the state assembly over the government's not tabling a number of reports by commissions of inquiry -on major corruption allegations and on the 2002 communal riots, by the Nanavati Commission. During a question by Congress whip and senior MLA Balvansinh Rajput, on the Sujalam Sufalam irrigation network, the Congress demanded the tabling of the inquiry report on the project.
Congress demanded the tabling of the inquiry report in the assembly, which the government has not done for several years.
Shankersinh Vag hela, leader of opposition (LOP) in the state assembly and senior Congress leader said: “We have raised the issue of inquiry reports on the corruption of this government not being tabled for years.To cover up their massive corruption, the state BJP government appoints inquiry commissions but never tables the reports in the assembly. We demanded that the inquiry reports of the Justice Nanavati Commission on the Godhra carnage and post-Godhra communal riots of 2002, the Justice M B Shah Commission on the Rs 1 lakh crore corruption allegations, on the Sujalam Sufalam irrigation project scam, on the Surat floods, on the deaths of children in the Asaram Ashram, on the killings of dalit boys in Thangadh, on the communal division of society, the GSPC scam, land allocation to industries, stalking of a woman by top authorities and Pavagadh stampede inquiry report among others, which have not been tabled.“
Vaghela also demanded the tabling of the Lokayukta report in the assembly.
He also said that every year the state government tables the Comptroller and Auditor General of India's report on the last day of the budget session to avoid a discussion in the house. We demand the early tabling of the CAG report and a detailed discussion in the house.
