Surat: Cash and valuables worth Rs 91,000 were stolen from a house in Udhna on Tuesday night by unidentified robbers while the residents were asleep on the first floor. Police said that the robbers had locked the doors of the first floor before breaking into the ground floor room.
Rajesh Khatri, resident of Harinagar in Udhna, lodged a complaint with Udhna police after he came to know of the theft on Wednesday morning.
Khatri, a designer at a textile unit, alleged that cash totaling to Rs 50,000 and jewellery worth Rs 41,000 were stolen from his house by some unidentified persons. Burglars broke open the front door lock of the ground floor room in his house. The room was locked since Khatri's mother, who usually sleeps there, had gone out and the family was sleeping on first floor.
"Police is not sure how many persons were involved in the theft. The family was locked on the first floor and later the theft was carried out. We examined CCTV camera footages of nearby area but no useful material was found," said S V Vasava, police sub-inspector, Udhna.
After coming out, Khatri checked the ground floor room and found the door lock broken while luggage was scattered on the floor. Valuables and cash were missing from the cupboard.
