The girls of the zilla parishad schools in Kalyan and Ambernath have received an interesting gift on the occasion of Women's Day. Sanitary napkin vending machines were installed in these schools for the benefit of young girls.
Buying sanitary napkins is still a big deal for many girls and women in the remote parts of Central Suburbs. The women folks approach the chemist shop cautiously and ask for a pack of napkins shyly, when no other customer is around. Thus, to take away this awkwardness, MP Shrikant Shinde of Kalyan installed sanitary napkin vending machines in eight schools of Kalyan and Ambernath.
These schools are- Sakharam Sheth School of Kolegaon, Sarvoday School of Nilje, Kosubai Patil School of Vaklan, Rambhai Vise Balvikas Mandir of Usatne, Abhyuday Vidyalay of Dwarli, Sant Savlaram Vidyalay of Dhoke and Dahisar Mori School.

Sanitary napkins are needed by women every month and they are an important part of women's health and hygiene. "Yet, there is a lot of fear and shyness around this topic which needs to be allayed. Hence, we have decided to install these machines," said Shinde.
This is second such installation of vending machines in the Central Suburbs. In the month of January, Thane traffic police installed a napkin vending machine manufactured by a government agency at its headquarters in Thane. It has been said that more such machines will be installed at schools, colleges and railway stations for the convenience of women.
