This International Women’s Day has something special in store for lovers of Kannada films.

A film made by a woman director, which celebrates the spirit of women power, with a dominant female cast, will be hitting the screens across the State on Friday.

Suman Kittur, who made her mark with Edegarike and Slum Bala, has directed Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu based on a novella by Purnachandra Tejaswi.

Star cast

The story is about how a group of women in the Kiragooru takes on the mighty force of men in their village. The film has Shweta Srivatsav, Surekha Wagle, Sonu Gowda, Karunya Ram, Manasa Joshi, and B. Jayashree in the cast.

Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu , while capturing the tune of human emotions, expresses the strength of village women. Five artistes are essaying main characters in the film and they have sincerely tried their best to bring Tejaswi’s character to life,” said Suman Kittur, who struggled hard to capture the spirit of Tejaswi.

As a literary work, Kiragooru is much loved piece in Kannada literature. It is not easy to translate the humour on to celluloid. The challenge is to delineate the men in the village, who somehow survive their women.

Characters of men in the film are being essayed by talented artists such as Achyut Kumar, Kishore, Sharat Lohitashwa, S. Narayan, Ravishankar Gowda, and Yogesh.
