‘Divert Yellampalli water to Karimnagar’

March 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

Expressing concern over prevailing water problem in Karimnagar town, TDP BC cell State organising secretary Putta Narender has demanded that the government take measures on a war-footing to divert Sripada Yellampalli project waters to Karimnagar town to mitigate crisis.

In a press note here on Thursday, Mr Narender said that the government was diverting Yellampalli project waters to Hyderabad city on a war-footing. Similarly, the government should also take measures to ensure that the Yellampalli project waters were utilised to meet the drinking water requirement in Karimnagar town, he maintained. He said that the Godavari river waters from Yellampalli project in Karimnagar district should first quench the thirst of the locals and later divert to Hyderabad. He also ridiculed Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar’s claim of providing daily water supply in Karimnagar town when the municipal authorities were unable to provide adequate water even on alternate days due to drying up of Lower Manair Dam. He said that the diversion of Yellampalli project waters to LMD alone would solve the drinking water problem in Karimnagar town. He also urged the municipal authorities to take measures to use the available waters judiciously by closing all the leakages and misuse of water by the private vehicle servicing units.
