Mangaluru: Have a smile, want to ‘selfie’ it and win prizes in the deal? Then head for City Centre Mall and Forum Fiza Mall this Sunday. Thanks to Indian Dental Association, DK district branch’s selfie your smile as part of International Dentist’s Day, people across ages who have the smile may either mail it to the organisers on idamysmile@yahoo.com or take their smile selfies in platform provided at both the venues, says Dr Shishir Shetty, president of IDA, DK branch.
Oral health is an integral part of general health that affects overall well-being and quality of life.
Smile a core quality of one’s persona and a peace tool can change millions of lives for the better. A healthy smile a window to overall health translates the language of well-being to the society, he said, adding International Dentist’s Day is annually celebrated on March 6. “The selfie your smile is a service for public by dentists to facilitate oral health self-awareness,” he said.
Observing that the present generation is hooked to selfies and reflects mood of the people, he said selfie is endemic to today’s society. The IDA, DK branch plans to utilise selfie concept as an oral health and smile assessment tool with the ‘Selfie your smile contest,’ he said. The e-mails should be sent to the above id on or before March 4, he said, adding those who cannot do so may go to the venues on Sunday to take their smile selfies in the platform provided.
The best smile selfie will be presented with the IDA-DK best smile award and this includes cash price and gift vouchers. There will be separate categories for both men and women. This programme aims at helping the public to have a better self-understanding and thereby empowering them to make improvements in their oral health, he said. There will be videos on dental awareness played at the venues in a bid to create greater awareness on oral health, he added.
