Tavera To Source Diesel Engine From Isuzu For Indian Market
Tavera is a popular product from Chevrolet in the Indian market. Healthy sales are still recorded from the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) within the country. Chevrolet would like to continue selling the Tavera in the Indian market beyond 2017.
The Indian Government has announced that all vehicles sold in the country will have to adhere to BS IV emission norms by April 1, 2017. Chevrolet will have to update its diesel engine that does duty in their Tavera model. The current engine is sourced from ICML Rhino and complies with BS III emission norms.
Now in an attempt to continue selling the Tavera in the Indian market, Chevrolet has approached Isuzu Motors. The Japanese-based manufacturer will provide a diesel engine, which is BS IV compliant.
Rumour has it that Chevrolet India and Isuzu Motors could share an engine. The duo could also share platforms and cross-badge their products for the Indian market. Isuzu also plans on introducing its very own Toyota Innova competitor in India soon.
General Motors is planning on revamping its entire line-up for India. Several of the existing products are likely to be discontinued and replaced with new and interesting products. The Sail twins and Enjoy could be the first products to face the axe during 2016 in India.
