The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has written to the UT Administrator, urging him to send back all the inspectors of food and supplies from UT to their parent states of Punjab and Haryana as they have completed their term.
Owing to staff shortage, the Chandigarh Administration had invited seven inspectors of food and supplies on deputation from the states of Punjab and Haryana so that projects such as smart ration card, manual ration cards and digitisation of record of beneficiaries could be completed in time.
PUCL stated that these inspectors had already completed their term of three years of their deputation.

Rajinder Kumar Gupta, state head consumer affairs of PUCL, alleged that the department had deliberately sidelined the inspectorate staff UT cadre by not assigning them any important work.
“When all the UT cadre inspectors of the department have been sitting idle for the last five months then why the services of seven inspectors on deputation from the states of Punjab and Haryana are being taken in UT, though their term of deputation has expired?” asked Gupta.
PUCL urged that all the inspectors working on deputation from Punjab and Haryana in the department of Food and Supplies be immediately repatriated to their parent states.
