This Drivable Jaguar XK120 1:5 Scale Replica Is Not for Kids, Does 38 MPH

As odd as it may seem, you’ve seen your fair share of pedal-powered miniature cars on our website, so you’d be excused if you dismissed this Jaguar as being nothing more than just another expensive toy for spoiled brats. But you’d be half wrong.

The Hammacher Schlemmer 1:5 Scale Replica of “the other famous Jaguar next to the E-Type” - the XK120 - is indeed expensive. So expensive actually that you could even buy a perfectly decent used Jaguar at the scale we all like our cars to be: 1:1. This over-elaborated toy will set you back $20,000, so good luck explaining that to the missus.

But even though this is still essentially a toy, it’s not one suited for your kids. You know, unless you want little Johnny doing 38 miles an hour (60 km/h) down the sidewalk, because that’s how fast this thing will go. How is that even possible? Well, the mini-XK120 hides a pretty neat trick under its bodywork.

In a day when even the SUVs are going electric, this miniature roadster packs a 110cc four-stroke air-cooled engine that runs on gasoline and, we’d assume, makes the kind of noise that will make everyone around turn around thinking pizza has arrived. But that’s not really a complaint, since it’s better than the hum an electric motor would have produced.

XK120 Mini Roadster is also packing other goodies. It comes with 10-inch wheels wrapped in real rubber, it has double (front) and single (rear) wishbone suspension, gas shocks for a comfortable ride and it even hides a spare wheel in the trunk. The interior is worthy of a Jaguar with aluminum wood-rimmed steering wheel, red (faux) leather and a gearstick you’d be best advised not to use around children, given its position. But it’s not there just for show: the Jaguar XK120 Mini Roadster had a three-speed automatic gearbox. All these add up to a 215 lb package.

If, for some reason, you’ve always wanted to be hated by all the kids you meet, turns out $20,000 is all you need. And the best part is those suckers won’t even be able to catch you on their bikes or skateboards.
