Begusarai: Fine arts students Veerchand and Rakesh of Kala Bhavana at Kolkata's Visva-Bharati University travelled all the way to
Bihat, the native village in Bihar's
Begusarai district of arrested JNUSU president
Kanhaiya Kumar, and staged somewhat unique protests against "restrictions imposed on freedom of expression" in various central universities of the country.
Veerchand on Wednesday painted his body in blood red to portray, what he said, "a wounded democracy", and marched through the village holding an All India Students' Federation (AISF) flag in hand.
Earlier in the day, he drew a portrait of Kanhaiya against the backdrop of 'Save JNU' and 'Kanhaiya: A shining Red Star' slogans on a wall.
It may be recalled the Left parties had conferred the title of 'Red Star' on Communist leader
Chandra Shekhar Singh in 1960s after he was elected the first Leftist MLA in Bihar. Kanhaiya is the first AISF activist to have been elected the JNUSU president.
Veerchand and Rakesh also expressed their anguish at the "sorry state of affairs in our country today" by painting our democracy as a dinosaur.
They titled the artwork 'Save JNU, Save India'.
