NAVI MUMBAI: A long-distance express train on the
Konkan Railway route mowed down a flock of
sheep between
Kolad and
Roha in Raigad district early on Tuesday. While villagers claimed that at least 100 sheep were mowed down, the Konkan Railway spokesperson insisted that only “six to eight sheep” were killed.
“Around six to eight sheep were killed mainly due to the negligence of the shepherd who allowed them on the rail tracks,” maintained Konkan Railway spokesperson Siddheshwar Telugu.
The incident took place at 3.30am on Tuesday, when the
Rajya Rani Express, that runs between Dadar Terminus and Sawantwadi Road, was passing through the Kolad-Roha section, near Gove village. The villagers have buried the carcasses on an open plot near the railway tracks.
