Alex McLeish has agreed to become the new manager of Zamalek, according to Sky sources.

The 57 year-old has reportedly held talks with officials from the reigning Egyptian Premier League champions and is set to replace Mido, who was sacked by the Cairo based club two weeks ago.

The former Tottenham and Middlesbrough striker was dismissed as manager following a 2-0 loss to Al Ahly in the Egyptian league derby.

Zamalek are second in the league, just two points behind their cross-city rivals with 15 games remaining in the season.

McLeish has been without a role since stepping down as manager of Belgian side Genk at the end of the 2014/15 season.

A statement released on Zamalek's website confirmed that the former Birmingham, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest boss was in talks to take over at the club.

"Murtaza Mansour, chairman of the club, has confirmed that Alex McLeish has signed with him in principle to lead the first team," read the statement.
