Oil tanker mows down siblings

Belagavi: An oil tanker mowed down two siblings at Congress Road here on Saturday.
Akanksha Bharat Purohit, 14, and her sister Pratiksha, 13, were returning home after tutorials when the oil tanker hit their scooter. While Akanksha died on the spot, Pratiksha succumbed to severe head injuries when she was being shifted to a hospital.
Police said that the incident took place near the railway gate when the scooter was turning towards Veer Soudha.
Akanksha was a class VIII student and Pratiksha was in class VII. They were students of MVM High School. A case has been registered in Traffic (South) police station.
This is the second accident at Congress Road in a year. Nine months ago, GIT student Anushka Joshi, 19, died on the spot after being hit by a speeding lorry at Nanawadi Cross.
