CHENNAI: The Indian Green Building Council (
IGBC) has given the platinum rating to a hostel at
Reserve Bank Staff College (RBSC) in Teynampet here.
A press release from Confederation of Indian Industry (
CII) said RBSC's new hostel - Kurinji -- has achieved the platinum rating based on the green initiatives which includes heat island effect roof, rain water harvesting and water efficiency.
The building has also a treatment plant to recycle the sewage water.
“We will also be able to save annual energy savings of 92,378 kWh, which translates to energy cost saving of Rs 46,000 per month. In addition to this, 8KW solar system caters to 4% of the total energy consumption of the project,” said the release.
He said 20% of total building materials used have recycled content. “Nearly 75% of the materials used in the project were sourced locally”, the release adds.
C N Raghavendran, chairman IGBC Chennai chapter, said more than three billion square feet of green spaces in the country have adopted IGBC green building standards. “This in the process has facilitated India to stand number two in terms of registered green building footprint. IGBC aspires to facilitate 10 billion square feet of registered green building footprint by 2022,” he said.
