The ITBP Recruits Training Centre (RTC) at Iluppaikudi in Sivagangai district conducted its passing out parade on its campus on Saturday. As many as 197 constables, who completed their one-year training, took part in the parade which was reviewed by RTC deputy inspector general Austine Eapen. Second-in-command Banwarilal pointed out the rigorous training they underwent which involved physical, weaponry, unarmed combat, police tactics, law, field craft, field engineering, drill and firing.
ITBP also put up a show on marshal arts, and coordinated drill. Commandant Nancy Austine and deputy commandant Ramesh Sharma were also present.
Woman commits suicide:
A 45-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison owing to debt. Police said, Vasanthi, wife of Arumugam of Eriyoor in Sivaganga, had gone to the Alagarkoil temple on Friday. She was found dead under a tree there and a bottle of poison was found nearby. Investigations revealed that she had borrowed a lot of money from many and was unable to repay them. As they started demanding for the money, she took the extreme step. Appan Thirupathy police have registered a case.
Relief distributed to those injured in bus accident:
A sum of Rs16.50 lakh has been distributed to 33 persons who were injured in the accident which took place between a TNSTC bus and cement lorry near T Kallupatti in Madurai last week. The injured persons were given Rs50,000 each from the CM's accident relief fund. Minister Sellur K Raju distributed the same. Madurai district collector K Veera Raghava Rao presided over the function.
