Here's how these award winners received the big news
The Karnataka State Film Awards for 2014 were announced on Friday evening. There weren't many surprise packages in the winner's list, nor were there clear favourites with no film dominating the awards. Sanchari Vijay, who had received a National Award for Best Actor for his role in Naanu Avanalla Avalu, scooped up the State Award as well in the category. The film was also awarded Best Story (Living Smile Vidya) on whose life it was based.
Lakshmi Gopalaswamy won Best Actress for her role in Vidaaya, which also got director P Sheshadri a Best Screenplay award. Ulidavaru Kandante also got two awards, with actor-director Rakshit Shetty adjudged Best Debut Director and Ajaneesh Loknath Best Music Composer.
Sanchari Vijay: Best Actor
I was in the dubbing studio for my film with director Nagabharana sir when the news broke. My phone had been put on silent and I did not realize till much later, when I checked it during a break. There were several missed calls and messages. I was not aware that the awards were scheduled to be announced on Friday. I knew that it is normally in January or February, but had not heard anything concrete. I told Nagabharana about the win, and he asked me to finish dubbing quickly, as I he knew that I would be getting a lot of calls from well-wishers and the media. He didn't let me go till I finished dubbing.
Lakshmi Gopalswamy, Best Actress
Friday was just another day for me, as I went about my regular routines, including dance. I had returned home at around 3 pm and took a nice afternoon nap with my phone on silent mode. When I woke up about an hour later, there were several missed calls, some of which were from director P Sheshadri's wife. When I returned her call, she asked me to quickly switch on the TV. That's when I saw the news that I had won the Best Actress award.

Rakshit Shetty, Best Debutant Director
As chief guest, I had returned to the same stage on which I had performed numerous skits as a student at my alma mater, NITTE. I was in the midst of my speech when I received news of the award. I had never imagined that I'd one day return to my college as an award-winning director.
B Ajaneesh Loknath, Best Music Composer
I was in my studio when a friend called and congratulated me. I had no clue what he was talking about and that's when he asked me to switch on the TV. I didn't know they'd be announcing the awards now, so it came as a pleasant surprise.
