STUDENTS of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), last week, went on rampage because the school authority did not allow some students to register for the first semester examinations.

But in a statement signed by the school’s head, Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, the school said students who are not prepared to improve their academic performance engineered the crisis.

“There were some skirmishes on campus on Sunday night, but they were engineered and orchestrated by students who were not doing well academically and are not prepared to improve on their performance,” he said.

Olofintila disclosed that the school’s first semester examinations, which commenced two weeks ago and would have rounded off this weekend was disrupted as result of the disturbance, but added that the situation is now under control and that the said exams would continue without a change in the school’s academic calendar.

“Students with low academic grades, some of who did not have clearance certificates for the first semester and/or who did not register for the first semester examination, went on rampage and vandalised the school’s property. However, the situation is now under control and in consonance with our culture of uninterrupted academic calendar, the examinations will go on,” he stated.

The statement disclosed that the school authority places high premium on learning, research and character, adding that students who score less than 1.5 CGPA or within the range are always encouraged to do better so that they can excel in life.

And to further motivate students to perform better in their studies, Olofintila disclosed that the school founder, Aare Afe Babalola, and management award cash prizes of N500, 000 to students with 5.0 CGPA, N250, 000 to those with 4.8 CGPA and N100, 000 for those with 4.5 CGPA. He revealed that some students have collected this prizes for two to four years consecutively.
