KANPUR: BJP MP from Unnao
Sakshi Maharaj said “those arrested in
JNU incident should be hanged instead of being lodged in jail for life or they should be killed by police bullet”.
Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president
Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police on Friday on sedition charges following reports of students commemorating Afzal Guru, the executed convict of 2001 Parliament attack.
“When I had said earlier that terrorism is promoted and taught in madrassas, it had led to a widespread censuring. In fact, several terrorists were arrested from these madrassas in the past. But now terrorism has knocked the door of a university like JNU,” Sakshi said while talking to reporters in Unnao on Saturday.
Sakshi, while attacking the opposition for its stand on the issue, said: “Humiliation of the nation would not be tolerated at any cost. The way opposition leaders like CPI leader Sitaram Yechury came in support of the JNU student leader who raised slogans in support of Afzal Guru, is politics of appeasement which is very demeaning.”
He said people like Yechury are indulging in “politics of third grade” and demanded that “the Centre should take stern action against such elements otherwise the situation would become grave.”
Earlier in the day, Sakshi went to the Unnao district jail to meet Amit Shukla who had been arrested by the police for allegedly posting some objectionable matter on Facebook against a particular society, and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and cabinet minister Azam Khan.
Sakshi also met the family of Amit and pledged his support.
Sakshi attacked Azam by saying that it is on his hint that action has been initiated by police against Amit. He also said that if police does not arrest the youth of the other community for their act, he will be forced to rake up the issue.
