High avalanche risk in Lapland

For those in or heading to central and northern Finland, there's a high avalanche risk warning in effect for this weekend. Several ski resorts including Luosto-Pyhä, Ylläs-Levi, Ounas-Pallas, and Saariselkä are currently flagged at number 4 out of 5 on the warning system.

According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, there's a high avalanche risk in central and northern Finland this weekend.

For many ski resorts, the avalanche forecast is at 4 on the index which runs to 5 for very high risk. At level 4, naturally occurring avalanches as well as those caused by human activity are likely.

Top risk areas currently include central and northern Lapland, and the ski resorts of Levi, Luosto-Pyhä, and Saariselkä.
