NOIDA: The Noida Authority plans to establish neighbourhood convenience stores in an effort to ensure that there is at least one convenience store serving the needs of the residents in every residential sector. For starters 5 residential sectors of Noida have been shortlisted. The planning department of the Authority has been galvanized to earmark the plots and design the layout plans for the facilities in sectors 31, 47, 31, 45, 72 and 135.
These centers will be ready for the public within a year, officials said.
According to officials, the sectors were chosen after Authority officials conducted a survey of the city to identify the areas where there were no facility centres or even market complexes and residents had to travel long distances to procure basic items for their needs. "Work on these local convenient shopping centers will begin in next 3 months. We aim to deliver these centers within a year from work starts on ground," said a senior Authority official.
The proposed retail premises will be used for the purposes of selling small daily convenience goods such as foodstuffs, personal care products, newspapers and the like to provide for the day-to-day needs of people who live in the local area, and may include some ancillary services. "Layout of these shops will be of international standard. After constructing the shops under commercial centre scheme, authority will allot them to shopkeepers," said the official. "These shops will be simplified versions of 'everything-stores' that attempt to streamline shopping by selling groceries, pharmaceuticals and general merchandise and cater to a localized area," the official said.
Officials further said that that in future all new and developing sectors of the city should have these basic-need commodity outlets and the plan should be incorporated in the layout of the area at the planning stage.
