Sales agent Charlotte Mickie has been a regular at EFM since 1991. She first came with Alliance and has since worked with Celluloid Dreams, Maximum Films, eOne, and is now the president of Toronto-based Mongrel Intl. That shingle picks up some of the best of world independent cinema, including “Rams,” “Where to Invade Next,” “The Bronze” and “The Wave.”
Where do you like to go eat?
I like Storch (now called Renger-Patzsch) because it’s so idiosyncratic, and I love the Flammkuchen. Also Paris Moskau. It’s kind of expensive but it’s very intimate and the food is really, really excellent. The other thing worth mentioning is the sausage venders on the street at Potsdamer Platz. Those are amazing sausages!
Do you go to parties?
I do and I’ve been to some really cool ones. When I was at Celluloid Dreams we had a party for a Matthew Barney film that Agnes B had financed, “No Restraint,” at Clarchens Ballhaus. Downstairs it was like something out of “Cabaret” but I wandered upstairs and there was a tango club and they were teaching tango by candlelight! It really was magical. And to add to the magic, Matthew Barney had figured it out and come up, and for some reason he was with Charlotte Rampling. And they joined the group and they were dancing the tango. Oh my god, what a moment!
How many meetings do you have in a day?
Anywhere from 15-20. I usually meet over a hundred people per market.

Do you get to go to the movies?
It’s hard, but we go see our own movies at the official screenings because it’s important to see the audience reaction. And if I get invited to other stuff I try to go — either because the film is available or just to expand my horizons.
Anything special on offer this year?
We have the new Ira Sachs movie, “Little Men,” which is a crossover thing, both Panorama and Generation. Also “Viva,” which was shortlisted for the (foreign-language) Oscar nominations.
What do you do when you’re not working?
Shopping. There are all these sales going on during Berlin. Claudia Skoda is always worth a visit because her knitwear is absolutely stunning. Also I love going to the mall, the Arkaden. There’s a store, Manderin Duck with absolutely gorgeous luggage, and Worhl for fabulous Falke tights. Also downstairs is a discount store, DM Drogerie Markt and they have amazing moth repellants — “Mottenpapier.” Since I have this wonderful collection of Claudia Skoda sweaters, I am very diligent about moths! Honestly I can never stop going to Berlin because I have all these errands to fulfill.
