The University of Mysore (UoM), which recently resolved to enrol the children of farmers who committed suicide last year to graduate and postgraduate courses for free, is ready to make a similar gesture to the children of the soldiers from the State who died in the recent avalanche at Siachen.
Only, the children of these soldiers are too young now. While Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad’s daughter is barely two years old, Subedar T.T. Nagesha’s two children are still in primary school in Hassan district. Sepoy Mahesha from H.D. Kote in Mysuru district was unmarried.
When the matter was brought up during a press conference here on Friday, university Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa said he was ready to put up a proposal in the regard before the Syndicate. “If they approach us, we are ready. But, we can provide only university-level education,” Prof. Rangappa said.
