All set for ZP, TP polls in Yadgir

Manoj Jain, Deputy Commissioner and district election officer, has said that the district administration has made arrangements to ensure that the elections to the zilla and taluk panchayats are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Jain and Vinayaka Patil, Superintendent of Police, said on Friday that elections would be held to 24 seats in the zilla panchayat and there were 86 candidates. There were 94 seats in three taluk panchayats and 263 candidates were in the fray.

Eligible voters

As many as 7,11,736 voters were eligible to exercise their franchise. A total of 815 polling stations had been set up.

A total of 5,376 employees from several government departments had been deployed for election duty.

Mustering, d-mustering and counting would be held at Don Bosco School in Yadgir, Government Degree College in Shahpur and Sri Prabhu College in Surpur, he said.

H.S. Ashokanand, managing director of North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation; Budeppa, manager, Chamundeswari Electricity Supply Corporation, Mysuru; and Bharati, Senior Deputy Director of Regional Office, Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi, had been appointed as election observers, Mr. Jain said.

Booths

Mr. Patil said that there were 133 hypersensitive polling booths, 75 sensitive booths and 607 normal booths in the city. A requisition had been submitted to the officials to provide 1,320 police personnel to deploy them across the district for election duty. Four platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police and six platoons of the District Reserve would be deployed.
