Einstein right again

The highly elusive gravitational waves have finally been detected and the prediction made by Albert Einstein a century ago has now been vindicated (“Scientists spot elusive space-time ripples”, Feb.12). The discovery is significant in the sense that it can potentially help us reconstruct the early stages of the universe of which very little is known. It will also help us look for and learn about black hole systems, which is clearly an exciting phase in science.

It is a shame that a massive, world-changing discovery that took 100 years to find has not been publicised the way it merits attention. Did it lead TV news? CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and ABC World News Tonight all covered the story in the latter half of each programme, for a combined total of exactly one minute, 41 seconds. The news before this was about Donald Trump, a soccer player worried about the Zika virus and other topics. I am sure it might have been the same way in India.
