DU student murder: Four more held, Naveen Khatri sent to 14-day judicial custody

Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Vijay Singh said the arrested persons have been identified as Naveen’s father Rajkumar, his elder brother Sandeep, his uncle Kishan Kumar and cousin Navin.

“The arrest was made late Thursday night after their role in the incident came to light during Naveen’s questioning. On February 4, Naveen told Rajkumar and Sandeep that he killed his estranged girlfriend and dumped her body. He later asked them to wash the car as it was covered with bloodstains. Kishan and Navin took the car to a service centre to destroy the evidence,” he added.

The Indian Express had already reported Friday that police were probing the role of Naveen’s uncle, who allegedly tried to destroy evidence by washing
the car.

Singh said the four persons have been booked under sections 201, 202, 203 (destruction of evidence and giving false information) and 212 (harbouring offender) of the IPC.

“When he was first questioned, Naveen tried to mislead investigators by blaming his father, brother and two of his relatives for the crime. But he later broke down and admitted his role in the incident,” said the DCP.

Police sources added that Aarzoo’s murder was premeditated. Khatri allegedly gave her water laced with sedatives before killing her, they said.
