All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson left little doubt that the Golden State Warriors would be gunning for the NBA single-season wins record in the second half of the season.

At 48-4, the Warriors hit the All-Star break needing a 25-5 finish to the season to break the record set the by Chicago Bulls with a 72-10 record in 1995-96.

"Oh we will," said Thompson as part of an ESPN Radio interview. "We'll probably rest guys down the stretch. But we're so deep of a team that we should have a chance to win every night. Just to be in the conversation of 'You guys can do it' is crazy. It's great. I would have never imagined this. Growing up, I always thought that record was untouchable. Obviously we're playing for more than just 73 wins -- we're playing for a championship -- but if it's right there for us, we might as well try and take it."

Thompson and reigning MVP Steph Curry are participating in Saturday's 3-point contest and are joined on the West All-Star team by Draymond Green.

Green said the Warriors "don't talk about it at all."

"Our focus is always to get better each and every time we step on the floor. And I think if we do that, we get to 72," Green told ESPN Radio. "But if we win 72 or 73 games or 74 and we don't win a championship, nobody will ever care about the 70-whatever wins in the regular season. Everybody cares about the Bulls because they won a championship while winning 72. So it's more important to win the championship than winning 72 games."

The future was a hot topic on Feb. 6, when Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder visited Oakland one day before Super Bowl 50. Durant, according to Bay Area broadcast reports, spent part of the next day checking out real estate in the region and is very interested in joining the Warriors in free agency in July.

Some Warriors players and even management believe the deal is possible, ESPN reported Friday.

Golden State signed Thompson and Green to long-term deals in 2015 and Curry is a free agent after next season, when his current four-year, $44 million contract expires.
