Karachi Kings beat Lahore Qalandars comprehensively

Karachi defeated Lahore Qalandars by 28 runs despite 98-run opening stand between Gayle, Delport

(Web Desk) - Karachi Kings have defeated Lahore Qalandars by 27 runs. They batted brilliantly in the first half of the game after being put into bat by Dwayne Bravo, courtsey some extraordinarily poor fielding by Lahore, who dropped around 10 chances during the 20 overs. Qalandars started off brilliantly with Chris Gayle and Cameron Delport thrashing the Karachi bowlers to all parts of the ground. They were 98 for 1 when Delport departed after scoring 55 runs off just 39 balls. And there was no looking back for Karachi from there on. Gayle was gone next ball. Bravo left 2 balls later.

Umar Akmal and Rizwan put up 23 runs together but then Ravi Bopara got 3 wickets in an over. Though Hammad Azam was gien an LBW where he had hit the ball but since Aleem Dar s decision was that mattered, he had to go. Next over Ravi Bopara got Umar Akmal as well and finished his spell with 6 wickets. He had also scored 71 runs off just 43 balls and really turned the game around from a position where Kings looked out of the sorts; first while batting and then while bowling.

In the end, Qalandars only managed to score 151 runs off their allotted 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets, despite having put up a brilliant 98-run opening partnership. It was a poor performance by Lahore and they are now, deservingly, at the bottom of the table.

Bopara was declared the Man of the Match for his spectacular performance.

Lahore Qalandars innings

Overs 19.6: FOUR! But that doesn t change anything. Lahore have lost this game by 28 runs and Karachi Kings have won this game quite convincingly. This is their second win of the tournament and both of them have come against Lahore Qalandars.

Overs 18.2: OUT! Zafar Gohar also departs. Sohail Khan has gone right through him. Lahore now 134 for 8.

Qalandars dropped more, by the way..

Almost a dozen dropped catches, poor batting display after Delport s departure and one wrong umpiring decision; nothing s gone in Lahore s favour. And Karachi have fielded with much more composure than Lahore ever dreamed of doing.

Ravi Bopara: 3.3 overs, 6 for 15.

Overs 17.2: OUT! Umar Akmal gives up too. It s the sixth wicket for Ravi Bopara. Akmal tried to hit that over the Long On for six but mistimed it and hit that straight into Shakib al Hasan s hands. Lahore are out of this contest now. They re 132 for 7.

Overs 17.1: FOUR! That s a welcome boundary. Lahore Qalandars have been gasping for runs.

Qalandars undone by Bopara, first in the batting and now in the bowling..

Overs 15.6: OUT! Ravi Bopara has 3 in the over and Qalandars are now all over the place. Naveed Yasin has hit one straight into the Cover fielder s hands where Shoaib Malik made no mistakes. Nothing s going the Lahore s way. They are 122 for 6 now.

Overs 15.4: OUT! Hammad Azam has gone first ball as it hit him right in line with the middle stump. The replays show that he had hit the ball, hardly any pad there, but Aleem Dar s was the decision that mattered.

Overs 15.3: OUT! Rizwan has given his wicket up trying to paddle sweep Bopara who kept it nice and full and knocked his wickets over. Qalandars now 122 for 4.

Overs 14: 69 off 36 required now and both the batsmen at the crease are new to the crease and haven t yet been able to find their touch yet.

The biggest difference between the two teams today:

True that!

Overs 11.4: OUT! Captain departs now. The Qalandars have got no clue right now. They ve lost whatever they had gained from that opening brilliant partnership between Gayle and Delport within a span of just 5 balls. They were 98 for 0 and now are 99 for 3. Kings on top!

Overs 11.1: OUT! Chris Gayle departs next ball. He skied Bopara s first ball up and Mushfiq took a good catch. Suddenly, Qalandars are 98 for 2 and Kings are right back into the game.

Overs 10.6: OUT! And finally Karachi Kings have had their first kill. Delport came down the wicket and missed the ball completely. Mushfiqur Rahim removed the bails instantly and Usama Mir has his man. Delport departs, Lahore Qalandars are 98 for 1.

Yes, they look strong here. Gayle and Delport are in sweet form.

Overs 10.1: SIX! Delport has hit another one over the bowler s head for six and has completed his FIFTY as well. He s now 54 off just 35 balls and Lahore Qalandars are 96 for no loss.

Overs 9.6: SIX! That was typical Gayle stroke. Flat! It went sizzling past the wind like a bullet. GAYLE QALANDAR!

Overs 9.4: SIX! Selport hits one straight over the bowler s head and that one sails over the boundary for six.

Well......

That s very much the case but #NeverSayNever in T20 cricket.

They aren t scoring too quick but they haven t lost any wickets yet either. This one is nicely poised.

PSL is a success. Sharjah is sold out today!!!

Overs 4.6: SIX! Gayle hits his first six of the PSL. He seems to be in good touch today.

Overs 4.4: Huge appeal again by Shoaib Malik but JS Wilson remained unmoved and the replays show it was going down the leg side. Brilliant umpiring! It s JS Wilson 1 - 0 Malik.

Easy? A bit over exaggerated, maybe!

Lahore fans delighted!

Overs 1.6: Chris Gayle edged one earlier over the slips for Four but this one was much better struck over the Mid-Wicket field for FOUR!

Overs 0.6: FOUR! Delport spoils what was a really good over so far, cutting the ball through the off-side fielding and the ball races to the boundary.

Overs 0.5: Huge appeal by Shoaib Malik but the umpire remained unmoved. Replays shows that the impact was outside the off stump and it was a good decision under pressure by JS Wilson.

Chris Gayle and Cameron Delport to open the innings for Lahore Qalandars while Shoaib Malik to lead the attack from Kings  side.

Karachi Kings innings

Overs 20: Kings have put up a humongous 178. They lost only 5 wickets in the process and Bopara was simply brilliant in the last three overs. Lahore Qalandars will have a massive total to chase. Seems difficult but who knows what Gayle and Umar Akmal might do to the bowlers.

Overs 17.6: DROPPED! Dear oh Dear. Chris Gayle has dropped another chance. So far, if all catches taken, Kings have already lost over 15 wickets.

Long queues outside Sharjah Cricket Stadium to watch PSL2016.

Overs 17.1: OUT! Imad Wasim goes now. He has hit that one straight to Delport who caught it diving forward. Karachi haven t made the best out of these dropped catches. They are 139 for 5 now.

Overs 16.6: DROPPED! We can t say what will happen during the batting but it doesn t look like a Lahore Qalandars s day so far.

And fielding standards too..

Overs 16.1: Another stumping chance there but Bopara made it back in time.

Overs 15.6: Huge LBW appeal but the umpire thinks it was going to miss. Replays show that was hitting the middle stump. Qalandars have nothing going their way.

Well, seems so..

Overs 15.2: SIX! DROPPED! That was an easy chance at the boundary but the fielder there let it right through his hands. The ball sailed over the boundary rope for six. Bravo just can t help it.

Overs 14.3: OUT! Shakib is gone too. Trying to hit it out of the ground, the Bengali has hit it straight to Qalandars  captain Dwayne Bravo at the mid-wicket boundary. Kinds 109 for 4. Zafar Gohar has got another one.

Malik s wicket:

Overs 12.4: OUT! Shoaib Malik is gone. Malik came down the wicket and launched that one over the Mid Off fielder but failed to do so and Delport made no mistakes. Kings are now 95 for 3.

This could be why Qalandars are dropping catches..

Qalandars  fielding has been awful so far.

This is thrilling stuff at the PSL.

Overs 10.6: SIX! Shoaib Malik has hit a gigantic one here. That has hit the roof.

Overs 10.3: Stumping chance there. Umpire went up to the TV umpire. Rizwan was quick but Bopara was quicker to make it back into the crease. It s 73 for 2.

Or we can put it this way.

The atmosphere at Sharjah is electriying right now. Bazid Khan says it s like a domestic India vs Pakistan game.

Ravi Bopara has joined Malik in the middle now. He has had a great start to capitalise on now. He made a game out of nowhere last night against Peshawar Zalmi, though not quite made it. Lahore need to be catching him if a chance comes their way. He is dangerous and in form.

Everyone agrees to that at least today.

Overs 8.2: OUT! Vince is gone. He stretched himself way too much while chasing this ball and hit that straight to Bravo who made no mistakes.

They are now rightly being called as Lahore Blunders, instead of Qalandars.

Overs 7.2: DROPPED! again. Lahore Qalandars have dropped 4 catches already. Rizwan was the culprit this time who has dropped Shoaib Malik now off Kevon Cooper s bowling. This game is only in the 8th over and Lahore have already dropped 4 catches. Miseries continue for Lahore.

Overs: 6.4: OUT! Finally, Lahore Qalandars have caught one. Nauman Anwar wanted to clear the field over the Long On but couldn t get the elevation. Umar Akmal was standing there waiting for it. So Nauman is gone and Zohaib Khan was the lucky bowler.

Overs 5: Karachi Kings have got a solid start, courtesy some poor fielding display by Lahore Qalandars.

Overs 3.6: Nauman celebrates his new life with a six straight behind the bowler s back. Umar Akmal was hoping against the hope at the Long On but the ball sailed over his head for a six.

Overs 3.5: And Nauman Anwar gets another life. This time it s Cooper s teammate Dwayne Bravo, who is also captaining his side today, dropping a sitter in the covers.

Overs 0.2: Lahore s woes continue. Kevon Cooper has dropped one coming straight into his hands and Nauman Anwar gets a new life. Kings are 1 for 1.
