Good morning. It’s Friday February 12, 2016, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

The PGA TOUR hooked up another tech partnership, announcing a deal with Yahoo to offer fans free, live, and on-demand video content from its tournaments to fans around the world, sans cable subscription or authentication The deal began yesterday with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with viewers able to stream Featured Holes coverage from PGA TOUR LIVE during the early rounds of tournaments such as THE PLAYERS Championship and the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The deal will also see Yahoo offer global access to video on demand PGA TOUR content, including access to highlights and original content from tournaments, and a live, co-branded PGA TOUR leaderboard, which includes live play-by-play, shot-by-shot graphics, live audio, and VOD.

“Our global collaboration with Yahoo continues to expand,” said Rick Anderson, EVP of Global Media at PGA TOUR. “Yahoo continues to be one of the largest sports audiences in the world, and we look forward to distributing PGA TOUR LIVE Featured Holes coverage via Yahoo Golf platforms around the world.”
 

ON THE AIR

FOX Sports nabbed multi-year television rights to Titans of Mavericks, the big-wave surfing event taking place off the coastline of Half Moon Bay today and slated to air as a 90-minute show in late Spring. Production will see multi-camera highlights and super slow motion cameras, helicopters, drones, Cineflex units, in-water POVs, multi-vessel camera mounts, mounted athlete cameras and other tools to capture the production. Meanwhile, a fully art directed set will offer play-by-play action and first-hand interviews during the action.

The 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Game will see this year’s elite square off with English Premier League heavyweights Arsenal for the annual showcase. The match will be held at Avaya Stadium in San Jose on July 28 at 9p on ESPN and UniMas and serve as Arsenal’s first time in the event. “We are pleased to welcome Arsenal, one of the most successful clubs in the world, to compete against the best of MLS,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber in a statement. “Our AT&T MLS All-Star Week has become a celebration for the North American soccer community, highlighted by two teams showcasing many of the world’s top players. We look forward to a world-class event on July 28 at our newest state-of-the-art venue, Avaya Stadium.”

Meanwhile, the NHL will host the 2017 NHL Draft in Chicago next year, announcing the decision on Thursday. With the Blackhawks as host, the Draft will be held from June 23-24 next year and mark the first time the city has hosted the process. “The energy and passion Chicago has for the Blackhawks makes United Center the ideal setting for the 2017 NHL Draft," Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “The Draft will be one of the central moments of our Centennial, and the NHL family is looking forward to bringing this signature event to Chicago for the first time.”

NBC Sports Films will debut More Than Gold: Jesse Owens and the 1936 Berlin Olympics on Sunday at 12:30p on the broadcast channel. The documentary will see Morgan Freeman narrate Owens’ historic performance at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and the historical impact of the Games via interviews with former Olympic teammates, historians, and family members,

CBS Sports tackles the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with the third and final rounds on Saturday from 3-6p and Sunday from 3-6:30p. Brandt Snedekeris defends the title against the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth with Jim Nantz serving as anchor with Sir Nick Faldo as lead analyst in the 18th tower.

The Chicago Blackhawks are set to feature its first-ever Spanish-language radio broadcast via a partnership with Univision Chicago. The deal will see the team’s Match 6 game against the Red Wings carried on Univision America (WRTO AM 1200). The game action will be called by Univision Radio sports commentators Hector Lozano and Omar Ramos.

Turner Sports says this weekend’s NBA All-Star festivities notched record revenue with newbie sponsors on board this year set to include Verizon, Intel, Nike, Open Road Films, Apple and Tissot. The Intel partnership will see Turner work with Replay Technologies to bring its freeD format to the events, using an array of 28 cameras installed in the arena while Intel processor technology captures a digital reconstruction of the game to deliver a 3D experience with 360 degree perspectives. Turner Sports and Intel will also incorporate freeD into select NBA regular season and playoff games.

Meanwhile, veteran State Farm, title sponsor of State Farm All-Star Saturday Night, will unveil new creative as part of its “The Hoopers” marketing campaign on TNT on Saturday night, complimented with an in-arena extension and integration into our studio show that evening.

On the digital front, Bleacher Report sees three advertisers sponsoring the NBA All-Star Team Stream NOW video franchise in Old Spice, Quicken Loans and Foot Locker. In addition, Jordan Brand sponsors the NBA All-Star Celebrity + Fashion Package; Fed Ex signed on for the NBA All-Star Team Stream mobile package, and McDonald’s takes on the All-Star Surround Sponsorship that includes content from our B/R Studios, The Lab and Featured Content franchises.

With BBVA Compass returning as the title sponsor of tonight’s Rising Stars Challenge, as well as the Rising Stars Challenge Practice broadcast on NBA TV, the brand is tapping the talents of Kevin Durant and Becky Hammon, who made history as the league’s first full-time female coach, for the brand’s new #BrightFutures campaign, showcasing the odds-defying stories of the bank’s brand ambassadors. The first TV commercial from the new campaign will debut during tonight’s NBA coverage on TNT. “We set out to define our 10 bright-future principles so that we could share what we’ve learned about the path to success,” said BBVA Compass Chief Marketing and Digital Sales Officer Jennifer Kelly Dominiquini. “Kevin and Becky epitomize what you can do when you believe in yourself and stick to your goals. They live bright every day and they’re helping us convey our own goal, our ultimate purpose, which is to light the way to a brighter future for our clients.”

Delivery Agent inked a partnership with ANTA Sports, a branded sportswear enterprise in China, to manage US digital commerce for Warriors’ shooting guard Klay Thompson’s ANTA product line. The collection is available through digital commerce channels powered by Delivery Agent from a dedicated web and mobile site, among other outlets.

DIGITAL & STREAMING

UFC Fight Pass will now serve as the home of the GLORY SuperFight Series and Eddie Bravo Invitational events thanks to a new deal announced yesterday. The deal launches with GLORY SuperFight Series Chicago on Feb. 26 with a five-fight event headlined by Joe Schilling/Mike Lemaire. Meanwhile, EBI will be offered for customers starting in April. “We are proud to announce our new partnerships with the GLORY kickboxing and EBI Brazilian jiu-jitsu organizations,” Eric Winter, UFC Senior Vice-President and UFC Fight Pass General Manager. “This is a huge development for Fight Pass. We haven’t just added some kickboxing and some BJJ to Fight Pass – we partnered with leaders in both sports. Glory has established itself as the pinnacle of world kickboxing while EBI leads the way in exciting, fast-paced submission grappling. Both of these organizations are tremendous additions to Fight Pass.”

Facebook and the NBA are giving the full court press over NBA All-Star weekend with multiple activations in honor of the event. Yahoo sports NBA Insider and Editor of The Vertical Adrian “Woj” Wojnarowski will conduct interviews with NBA All-Stars and Rising Stars using Facebook Live and the Facebook Sports Newsdesk. Speaking of which, Facebook and the NBA will tap Facebook LIVE with a slate of NBA All-Stars visiting the booth, answering questions from fans and more. The league will also stream its official press conferences from the events live on Facebook throughout the weekend.

The NFL has ended its ban on team use of mobile live streaming apps Periscope and Meerkat, according to Patriots.com. Franchises will now be able to use the apps several times a week to showcase training camp drills, weight lifting and chalk talks. However, the streaming of live games will still be blocked. 

The New York Red Bulls became the first North American professional sports team to have a player featured on a YouNow.com live broadcast stream, with Sean Davis tapped to offer 30 minutes answering questions from fans about training camp and the upcoming season. The interactive platform now boasts over 100 million user sessions a month and live-streams 50,000 hours of new video content every day.
