Opining that there was no need of purchasing power from Chathisgarh State, CPI Telangana State Council has said the burden Rs 900 crore will fall on the power consumers in case the government purchased power from Chathisgarh.
CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy addressed a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in this regard on Friday. He stated that the State will be in a position to produce 24075 MW power by the 2018 and therefore there was no need to purchase power from Chathisgarh. Alleging that the State government has entered into a secret agreement with the Chathisgarh State in purchase of power against the National Power Policy and National Tariff Policy, the CPI leader said several power producers were in a position to provide power at lower price to the State.
“There is no reason in purchasing power at high price from Chathisgarh State. This will lead to heavy loss to the State”, he said. Even the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh too was purchasing power @ Rs 4.27 per unit but if Telangana State purchases power from Chathisgarh, it will cost Rs 4.90 to Rs 5 per unit. Instead of purchasing power from Chathisgarh, the State government should have purchased power from generating companies directly leading to savings.
Reminding Basheerbagh firing during previous Chandrababu Naidu government in united Andhra Pradesh State, Chada hoped that another Basheerbagh incident should not repeat in the State. (NSS)
