Brain-dead farmer gives new lease of life to three

Surat: Three persons got a new lease of life thanks to two kidneys and a liver of a 50-year-old brain-dead man of Mota Varachha in Surat. Relatives of Kanti Mangukiya donated his eyes too to two persons.
Mangukiya, a farmer, had a fall in Palitana taluka of Bhavnagar district on February 9. He was diagnosed as having suffered brain haemorrhage and was brought to Ayush Multi-Specialty ICU Hospital in Surat the next day.
Dr Bhadresh Mangukiya declared him brain-dead the same day.
His wife Kailash Mangukiya, 47, and sons Kaushik, 28, and Maulik, 25, decided to donate his organs to the needy.
Kailash said, "We thought if his organs can give a new lease of life to people what better than that."
Dr Pranjal Modi and Dr Jamal Rizwi of Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre removed the kidneys and liver from Mangukiya's body. They transplanted one kidney in the body of Vibha Vaniya, 41, of Surat and the other in that of Haresh Parmar, 24, who is from Surendranagar. Amit Mehta, 41, of Ahmedabad was the recipient of liver in donation. The process was facilitated by Donate Life, a non-government organization.
