Vadodara: Nagaland governor P B Acharya on Thursday visited Octave 2016, the cultural festival of northeastern states being held in the city. The festival is being held in the city for the first time.
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya said that the festival was an attempt to understand the states of northeast through their culture. He said that this was necessary to build a bond with these states.
Acharya said that the artists from the region had honed their skills after much hard work.
Artists and craftsmen from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim are participating in the five-day event that kicked off on Thursday. The event was organised by the Western Region Cultural Centre (WRCC), Udaipur, in association with the Vadodara district administration, Vadodara Municipal Corporation and city-based Urmi School. The event is held on a rotational basis in states that are members of WRCC since 2009. Earlier, the event was held at Surat in the state. A crafts bazaar has also been set up as a part of the event.
