JAMMU, Feb 11: The 42nd Inter-Collegiate Annual Athletic Meet (M&W) 2016 was declared open today by Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, here today.
The Athletic Meet is being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Prof. R.D. Sharma was the chief guest and Dilbag Singh ADGP presided over the function.
Prof Sharma in his opening address encouraged the participants of different colleges both (Men & Women) to take part in the Athletic Meet with good sportsmen spirit and asked them to play for the glory of the game. The Vice Chancellor said that there is no dearth of talent but the need of the hour is to identify and polish talented sportspersons for State and National Level events.
Among other present on the occasion were Prof. Keshav Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu, Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, DSW, Dr. Daud Iqbl, Coordinator Campuses, Neeraj Sharma, HS Chib, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Azaj Malik, Sumenesh Sharma, Narayani Jamwal, Balbir Singh Chib, Sudesh Bhagat, Neelam Clalotra, Pardeep Kumar, Rakesh Puri, Tanvir Ahmed, Ravinder Singh and Sarveshwar Pathania.
In shot put (men), Satinder Singh of PG Department won gold, while Reham Ali of GDC Bishnah and Rahul Sabharwal of GGM Science College clinched silver and bronze medals respectively.
In shot put (women), the gold, silver and bronze medals went to Shubeena of PG Department, Shazia Kousar of GCW Parade and Pinki Kumari of GCW Udhampur respectively.
Long Jump (men): 1st – Neeraj Sharma, GDC Akhnoor; 2nd -Ankush Sani, P.G.Deprtment and 3rd -Anish Sangra, GDC Hiranagar.
Long jump (women): 1st – Richa Mandla, GCW Parade; 2nd – Kanchana Devi, GCW Parade and 3rd- Masarata Qudir, PG Department.
Javelin Throw (men): 1st -Zakir Hussain, P.G Department; 2nd -Rashiv Sharma, GDC Akhnoor and 3rd – Harsh Atri, GDCC Kathua.
Javelin Throw (women): 1st -Pinki Kumari, GDC Udhampur; 2nd – Rakhi Rajput GCW Gandhi Nagar and 3rd -Sumiya Kousar, GCW Parade
800 Mts (women) : 1st -Kiran Devi, GCW Kathua; 2nd -Shashi Sharma, GCW Parade and
3rd – Shivani Sharma, GDC Akhnoor.
10,000 Mts. (men) : 1st – Lhundup Dorjay, MAM College; 2nd – Raman Kumar, GDC Akhnoor and 3rd-Radha Sham, GDC Kathua.
Today’s events were officiated by Nirmal Singh, S Gurbachan Singh, Narinder Sharma, Vinay Manhas, Amit Sharma and Rakesh Verma.
