The Unnao police have booked a youth for allegedly hurting the sentiments of a particular community by making remarks on Facebook.

KANPUR: The Unnao police have booked a youth for allegedly hurting the sentiments of a particular community by making remarks on Facebook. He has also been charged for writing remarks against senior UP cabinet minister Azam Khan and SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. The youth has been identified by police as Amit Shukla, a resident of Civil Lines locality.

The youth, who has been arrested by the police, had posted a series of objectionable contents which fuelled the anger of the community in particular. They came out on roads to protest and lodged a complaint with the police on Wednesday after which they swung into action to avoid spread of any kind of communal tension.
According to the police, the youth had passed derogatory remarks against the community in particular and also wrote against SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and minister Azam Khan.
Talking to TOI, Additional SP Ram Kishun Yadav said that the youth identified as one Amit Shukla has been arrested and sent to jail for passing derogatory remarks against a community in particular. ASP said that the accused had written against Mulayam Singh Yadav and Azam Khan. "We have lodged a case under section 153 (3) of IPC and IT act against Amit Shukla in Kotwali police station. He has been sent to jail. His facebook account has been blocked", said the senior police official.
The ASP said that the people of the particular community had brought along a print out of the Facebook post to prove their allegations that the accused had done wrong and demanded action. It was after this Amit was detained first for questioning and later arrested, he said.
Ram Kishun further said that the accused had posted the objectionable content on Facebook about 10 days back which had been triggering anger and people finally reacted on Wednesday.
The incident has gained weight as the right wing organisations have come in support of the arrested youth. The members of Hindu Yuva Vahini reached the local police station and gheraoed it. The Hundu Yuva Vahini stated that there were posts on facebook against their Gods and Goddesses and therefore, a case should also be lodged against those Muslim youths who posted such stuff online but police was not taking any action against them or hearing their plea.
