A democratic development front set up by the Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha (AGM) to raise the demand of land for landless Adivasis, Dalits, plantation workers, and farm labourers has plans to enter the electoral fray in the Mannarkkad constituency that covers the Attappady region in the forthcoming Assembly elections. At a press conference here on Thursday, Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha leaders C.K. Janu and M. Geethanandan said a formal announcement of the front would be made at a meeting to observe the 14th anniversary of the Muthanga agitation here on February 19.
The meeting, to be held at Hassan Marikkar Hall here, would also give a final shape to the second land reformation policy document being drawn up by the Mahasabha.
On February 20, a collective in which students too would take part will be held at Gandhi Bhavan, Thycaud, to press for the implementation of the Rohith Act that will ensure legislative protection for students from marginalised communities in higher education institutions.
