The 66th Berlin Film Festival: Amal and George Clooney's star turn at red carpet premiere

The 66<sup>th Berlin Film Festival kicked off amid controversy after jury president Meryl Streep reignited the diversity debate with an off the cuff remark. However, the serious issue of representation aside, it was also an occasion for the celebrities to turn on the glamour.

Leading the fashion pack at the opening ceremony red carpet premiere of Hail,Caesar! was Hollywood power couple Amal and George Clooney.

All eyes were on Amal, 38, with the statuesque beauty sparkling in a stunning vintage YSL gown supplied by WilliamVintage, as she walked the red carpet with her 54-year-old husband. There was a look of love about the Lebanese-born lawyer and her Hollywood leading man as they hobnobbed with fellow A-listers, Tilda Swinton and Streep.

Swinton – who plays twins Thora Thacker and Thessaly Thacker in the movie – showcased her characteristically quirky style wearing a tweed two-piece which appeared to have been inflated. The 55-year-old British star matched a cream cropped jacket with a midi-length skirt, while her platinum blonde crop was coiffed into curls.

Meryl Streep shrugged off the earlier controversy of the day when she defended the all-white jury claiming "we're all Africans, really", as she took to the red carpet in a sweeping reptile printed maxi dress. The Iron Lady actress waved and smiled at the crowd looking regal as she posed for photos.

Set during the 1950s Golden Age of Hollywood, Hail, Caesar! also stars Ralph Fiennes and Jonah Hill and focuses on Hollywood fixer Eddie Mannix (Brolin), who has the task of covering up scandals involving movie stars. Hail, Caesar! is scheduled for general release on 4 March.
