PMC contractor blamed for gas leakage in Model Colony

Dattatraya Nagolkar, assistant divisional fire officer, said, “Road construction work was going on in Model Colony. The earthmover machine used for digging the road hit the MNGL pipeline underground, causing leakage of gas. It created fear among local residents as the gas leakage could have led to an explosion. Residents informed the police and fire brigade around 12 noon. The fire brigade team rushed to the spot. The MNGL staff also reached the spot and started the repair work. They closed the valve of the pipeline and stopped the gas leakage.”

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janta Party activists filed a complaint at the Pandav Nagar police chowki against the PMC contractor in this case. BJP activist Ravindra Salgaokar said, “We got to know that MNGL had told the PMC contractor that heavy machines should not be used for digging the road as it may damage the gas pipeline. Still, the earth mover was used. Also, PMC contractor failed to meet the deadline set by Traffic Department. This is a serious negligence.”
