He flew into the airport yesterday to meet with representatives of the organising committee and to have a look at the facilities
Mr Bennet’s company, Paul Bennet Airshows, has taken on the job of organising the flying activities associated with the air show.
“I really didn’t start out wanting to organise air shows, my main interest was flying at them but I found that it was becoming more difficult for air shows to be run,” Mr Bennet said.
“Because I had the knowledge and the contacts - my company works with the aviation regulator CASA virtually every day - I could help make the show happen, so that’s how it started.”
Paul Bennet Airshows perform at dozens of events every year both in Australia and regularly in South-East Asia.
He said the airport at Kempsey was perfect for an air show.
“It is a great venue and I can’t see why we can’t put on an entertaining show,” he said.
“One big advantage is the position of the sun which will be behind the spectators so they will have a perfect view of all the action.”
Mr Bennet will bring several aircraft from his own extensive collection to perform at the show including a WWII Avenger torpedo bomber, an Australian Wirraway trainer, a T-28 Trojan and several aerobatic aircraft.
The Wings Over Macleay Air Show is organised by Port Macquarie based group Mid North Coast Events and is scheduled to take place at Kempsey Airport on October 1 and 2.
