6-Pack Band: As a transgender, life is a challenge right from birth.

One of India���s most unique music groups, the 6-Pack band comprises six transgender singers ��� Fida, Asha, Ravina, Komal, Bhavika and Chandni.
Hailing from the Hijra community, the members came together to further the cause of gender equality and transgender rights in the country.Ashish Patil and Shameer Tandon, who are behind the band���s formation, scouted for talented transgender artists from traffic signals and railway stations.
Sonu Nigam lends his voice to India's 1st transgender '6-Pack Band'
Through their very first song ��� a Hindi cover of Pharell William���s hit 'Happy' ��� the singers have tried to capture the emotion, using their trademark claps.
They have also collaborated with Sonu Nigam for 'Sab Rab De Bande.' The six singers unanimously share their feelings and tell us the story behind the band���s name, ���As a transgender, life is a challenge right from birth. We are always referred to as sixers or chhakkas and other derogatory terms. We wanted a name that brought with it strength and respect, yet was youthful. When the name 6-Pack came up, we simply loved it.���
On their a-ha moment: As transgenders, we have always been subjected to ridicule. Now, the same boys who used to pass unsavoury comments, tell us they have liked our song online and have pressed the like button! That ���like button��� is our a-ha moment. On their brand of music: We all sing different genres ��� one sings ghazals and qawwalis, the other loves to rap, while a third is into folk music. What binds us together is our love for melody, especially Lata Mangeshkar���s songs. On their musical influences: Our inspiration is our community. When Ashish and Shameer told us we would be the ���lead��� singers and not supporting voices that would be added for flavour, we knew our time had come.
What could be better inspiration?
On their way forward: Our songs are being released and we are preparing for our international shows. Until today, getting a name on a ration card was an almost impossible task. But now, we are getting our passports done. Living up to the trust and hope bestowed on us is seriously the first thing in the pipeline.
