EC develops complaint app for voters
Kolkata : The Election Commission has come up with an app - Samadhan - that will help voters lodge complaints against any poll malpractice and get swifter feedback on the case.
This application will help redress grievances more efficiently and quickly as a dediccated team from the EC will be monitoring the complaints as they are lodged.
If a voter submits a complaint through this app, a text message will be sent to the monitoring team.
The complainant will also get updates on the status of the case.
An EC official said the idea of Samadhan was to allow voters to lodge complaints easily if they spot any electoral malpractice, which included violence in a booth, rigging or a voter not being allowed to stand in the polling queue. The complaint, once submitted, will be forwarded to the returning officers (RO) concerned for action.
"Often, the political parties and candidates have a lot of grievances, which take time to get redressed. But with this app, the complaints can be addressed remotely and sooner. Users can upload pictures, videos and other documents as well, as proof of evidence," the EC official said.
The person will have to mention against whom the complaint is lodged and the name of the assembly constituency. If a voters or a political party feels that any candidate is spending more than necessary, they can also submit their complaints with photographs as evidence.
