Flyer hides 75L gold in shoes, held

MUMBAI: Customs officials arrested a flyer, Lakadawala Wasim, for allegedly trying to smuggle 3.1kg gold worth Rs 75.2 lakh hidden in his shoes at the domestic airport Thursday. He had arrived from Delhi.
Wasim told officials that he had retrieved the gold from a lifejacket beneath a seat. He said he was a carrier and was promised Rs 20,000.
Customs officials said the smuggled gold was possibly hidden when the aircraft had flown on the international route.
