As winter press on Ta dermatologist offers tips on preserving skin during fickle weather

(MENAFNEditorial) With the temperature in Florida frequently bouncing from cold to comfortable many are experiencing dry irritated skin that''s associated with winter weather. Fortunately for Floridians Tampa dermatologist Dr. Seth Forman offers a few ways to keep their skin in great condition.

''One of the biggest contributors to dry skin during the colder seasons is a hot shower'' says Dr. Forman. ''I recommend patients use lukewarm water rather than extremely hot water when in the shower or washing their hands. Scalding hot water can strip the skin of its moisture leaving cracked and dry skin behind.''

And another surprising mistake that''s all too common excessive handwashing.

With the flu and colds floating around excessive hand washing becomes even more common which ultimately causes hands to dry out. That''s why it''s important to regularly use a non-alcohol based lotion to prevent dryness and cracking while keeping hands soft.

Finally Dr. Forman also encourages routine sunscreen use despite the cooler temperatures and overcast days of winter. Because sun damage can still occur during overcast days it''s important to lather on the sunscreen when spending time outdoors and to use a moisturizer with SPF in it.

''The key to looking and feeling younger and having less problems during the changing seasons has always been to stay hydrated and take extra care of your skin regardless of the weather'' says the Tampa dermatologist.

Dr. Forman is the founder of Forman Dermatology and Skin institute located in Tampa Fla. and has appeared on TV shows across the country including the nationally syndicated show ''The Doctors'' to provide sun-protection tips and to demonstrate his breakthrough skin cancer treatments.
