Yemeni forces backed by Saudi airstrikes seized control of a rebel military camp some 37 miles outside Sanaa on Thursday, as Iran-backed Houthi rebels made advances toward Sanaa, Reuters reported.

Forces supporting Saudi-backed President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi have been battling the Houthi rebel movement, loyalists to the country's former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. The war has killed thousands and set off a humanitarian crisis since the Saudi intervention began last March.

Riyadh began its offensive last year after the Houthis, based in northern Yemen, overran large swaths of territory and forced President Mansour Hadi into exile.
