The felicitation of vidwan P. Subbaraya Phalgun preceded a vocal concert by Vadlamani Srividya.

Laya Nada Kala Sravanthi (LANKAS) presented a fine vocal concert by talented young singer of Chennai Vadlamani Srividya, daughter and disciple of noted Veena Vidushi Sujana at Sringeri Peetha Paripalita Sri Sivaramakrishna Kshetram. The concert was held as part of the felicitation function of noted mridangam vidwan Parupalli Subbaraya Phalgun who is a recent recipient of the prestigious Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar instituted by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Before the concert commenced, there was an enjoyable mridanga laya vinyasam by the disciples of Subbaraya Phalgun — K.Mahesh, V.Aditya, M.V.L.Narasimha Raju and N.Ch.Rohit. During the felicitation, K.S.Govindarajan, principal of the Music College, noted vocal vidwan and music composer Modumudi Sudhakar and noted mridanga vidwan and staff artiste of Akashvani N.S.Kalyanaraman congratulated Subbaraya Phalgun on getting the Yuva Puraskar.

Srividya began her concert with Viriboni ata tala varnam in Bhairavi and was followed by Sri Ganapathini in Sourashtra and Vinatasuta in Jayantasena in quick succession. Next Srividya sang a rare kirtana Visalakshi in Kasiramakriya as the main item of the concert with attractive raga elaboration and crisp kalpana swaras. The tani played by young and talented Kundurthi Aravind was impressive. Srividya concluded the concert with the ever popular Jagadodharana in Kafi.
