Honda Motor Co. Ltd unveiled the "Light Weight Super Sports Concept" at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show in October, which was widely touted as the prototype of the new Honda CBR250RR supersports motorcycle. Soon after the show, it was reported that the company has given green light to the production version due to overwhelming response.

A report in Visordown indicates the production of the motorcycle is all set to commence in August 2016 and the global launch can be expected in the same month. The first batch of the production model is expected to be used for testing and homologation proposes.

Not to be confused with the CBR250R that is already on sale, the CBR250RR will be a more track-focused motorcycle with a body made of carbon fibre material that is light weight. Additionally, the Ohlins suspension will be used for better track performance.

The motorcycle in the concept form featured telescopic upside down suspension at the front wheel and the rear wheel is equipped with swing arm and is supported by the monoshock. The overall design shows sharp edges and athletic stance highlighting the aggressive look. The look is further complemented by the matte-black-based low-contrast graphics on the fairing. The production spec is expected to have minimal changes from the concept displayed.

The CBR250RR is expected to draw power from a new 250cc twin-cylinder engine with estimated 35-40bhp of power mated to a six speed gearbox. Additionally, an Akrapovic exhaust system will extend a raucous exhaust note.

When launched in India as a production model, the Honda CBR250RR will be pitted against the KTM RC390 and Yamaha YZF-R3.
