American Authors’ next chapter is a gig at Fenway Park

When he was a Berklee College of Music student living on Peterborough Street, Zac Barnett would occasionally go to Red Sox games. Friday, Barnett will be back at Fenway Park, this time performing. Barnett’s band, American Authors, is playing at Polartec Big Air. “It’ll probably be a little chilly, but it’ll be a blast to play at freakin’ Fenway Park,” said the singer. Thanks to the hit “Best Day of My Life” — maybe you heard it on the commercial for Lowe’s — American Authors have had some high-profile gigs of late, including at the NHL’s Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium on New Year’s Day and the AFC Championship game between the Patriots and Broncos. In both cases, the local team lost. “Don’t remind me, I feel bad enough,” said Barnett. The band, which moved from Boston to Brooklyn after finishing up at Berklee, is set to release their second album and then hit the road. In the meantime, the foursome, which also includes guitarist James Adam Shelley, bassist Dave Rublin, and drummer Matt Sanchez, is looking forward to coming back to Boston. (Their first show here — back when they called themselves the Blue Pages — was at the Paradise Lounge.) Asked if he’ll be attempting any acrobatic moves off the 140-foot-high ramp set up in center field at Fenway, Barnett paused. “I grew up in Minnesota and snowboarding was a huge part of my life, but I’m a little out of practice,” he said. “Maybe. We’ll see if anyone does a good bottom-dollar bet.”
