The body of a man, identified as Shashi, 59, of Thirupuram, was retrieved from near the Panchikkattu Kadavu on the banks of the Neyyar under the Poovar police station limits late on Tuesday.

According to the police, local residents, who saw Shashi’s bicycle and clothes near the bathing ghat grew suspicious when there was no sign of him. The ensuing search, with the Fire and Rescue Services personnel too joining in, ended with his body being traced a little later.

Incidentally, a police jeep from the Poovar police station, which was accompanying the ambulance taking Shashi’s body to the hospital, overturned near a sharp curve at Pazhayakada as the driver lost control of the vehicle. Two policemen – Poovar ASI Suresh Kumar and driver Rajan – who sustained injuries have been admitted to the Neyattinkara General Hospital. Their condition was stated to be stable.

Shashi’s body was handed over to his family after autopsy on Wednesday. He is survived by wife Vilasini and three children.
